PHILOSOPHY
OF DFPF |
Drug abuse prevention
is the most humane and cost effective way of addressing the consequences
of illegal and harmful drugs in our society. Prevention work needs
to be reinforced, enhanced, and expanded.
Effective prevention can take place only with positive social norms
which embrace and support healthy drug-free attitudes, environment,
and societies, while enforcing no acceptance towards the presence
of drugs and destructive behavior. These social norms must be reflected
in the accountability and enforcement of legal, medical, educational,
community, and personal standards.
People from every segment of society need to unite the strengths
of professional expertise to combat the drug problem as we strive
together towards a healthier nation. |

| History |
DFPF has been working
under the special consultative status of New Horizons Care
Centre (NHCC) which is the very first treatment & rehabilitation
centre of Pakistan providing Free treatment, rehabilitation,
after care and follow-up services to drug addicts. Moreover NHCC
has been working on the treatment of women and their rehabilitation,
HIV Prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of street children
etc. For more information about New Horizons Care Centre visit www.newhorizonscarecenter.com
Through extensive past experiences, NHCC realized that
providing treatment to drug addicts is not enough. Pakistan also
has a serious need to prevent the incursion of drug abuse in schools,
families, workplaces and communities to create a drug free and healthy
environment. Therefore a need for establishing an organization to
focus on drug abuse prevention was needed and DFPF came into being
with a team of highly motivated and dedicated professionals. DFPF
has since broadened the scope of its activities. Currently, our
team works on awareness raising, capacity building, research and
advocacy and resource development. |
